Raw Material Certificate (Metal)
A Raw Material Certificate (Metal) is a document issued by the manufacturer of material (steel, aluminium, copper alloys, titanium alloys) in which the manufacturer declares that the products supplied are in compliance with the order requirements and supply test results.
Scope: Statement of compliance with the order, with an indication of results of the specific inspection.
Validated by: The manufacturer's authorized inspection representative, independent of the manufacturing department.
❗ As a Raw Material Certificate (Metal) we usually provide an Inspection Material Certificate 3.1 (commonly referred to as "type 3.1") according to EN 10204 or its equivalent (such as a Product Quality Certificate according to GB/T standards).
The standard test results given in this certificate include:
1. Manufacturer
The material certification provides information about the manufacturer who produced the product, such as a pipe, tube, or shape. The material certificate states the company’s name or workshop, location, and certificate compliance. Additionally, it may include product markings such as the company’s name or logo.
2. Material Heat Number
The material heat number provides the primary traceability method for a given material. Therefore, the metal’s matching heat number must match the heat number on the certificate. This includes any supporting paperwork and any markings on the material’s surface.
3. Material Grade and Specification
The material grade is a classification system for metals based on their chemical and physical qualities.
4. Material Dimensions
The listed material dimensions depend on the raw material and vary. For example, metal plates are measured by thickness, whereas pipes or bars are measured by diameter.
5. Weight
Weight is defined as the mass per unit of length.
6. Mechanical properties
Mechanical properties provide information about the required strength properties and their compliance with the required specifications. This section may also include other mechanical properties such as hardness and grain size.
7. Chemical composition in %
The chemical analysis field of the material certification form validates the alloy makeup. It also includes details of alloying properties that validate a material’s suitability and compliance with the required client and/or project specifications.
8. Heat Treatment (optional)
Heat treatment refers to a specific heating or cooling process, usually to extreme temperatures, that a material undergoes. The reviewer will also review the product specification and ensure all techniques are correct.
9. NDE Testing, Hydrotest, Etc (optional).
The details of material testing are presented in this section. All pressure retaining pipes shall be hydrotested unless extenuating circumstances apply (i.e., golden weld).
10. Supplementary (optional)
The supplementary section includes any details specified in the purchase order, such as a PMI test, compliance with NACE MR0175, and intergranular grain testing.
11. Certified Inspector Signature
The responsible employee submits the certified signature. The employee's signature attests to the accuracy of the information in the certificate.
